Established in 1983, Feedback Services began as a partnership dedicated to assisting aspiring dramatists in creating marketable plays and finding venues for their works.

Two years later, we expanded our services to include a publishing division, “Feedback Theatrebooks.”  Our first book, The Playwright’s Companion, soon became the primary resource for playwrights and for fifteen annual editions provided details on first hundreds, and then thousands, of play markets and opportunities.  Currently in its 2nd Edition, our Professional Playscript Format Guidelines has been recognized for more than a decade as the definitive guide for correct playscript set-up.

Meanwhile, our editors were busy at work on other books about the theatre.  Our two theatre-related cookbooks sold out rapidly in theatre gift shops.  Our histories and anthologies have become standard textbooks in college classrooms, as have our individual editions of Pre-World War I American plays, printed by our manufacturing division, “Prospero Press.” 

In 2008 Walter J. Meserve, after 24 years as our Vice-President, assumed leadership of Feedback Theatrebooks & Prospero Press.  Bringing six decades of research in American dramatic literature (he is author/editor of sixteen books and more than 50 articles and essays) to our publishing company, he has served as author of two of our titles, co-author of two, editor and co-editor of several more, and co-editor of our Americana Series of Pre-World War I plays.  He has received three fellowships from the National Foundation for the Humanities, as well as fellowships from the Rockefeller and Guggenheim Foundations, and is Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Theatre and English at the City University of New York’s Graduate Center.
